In Madagascar, the Furcifer
Pardalis lives on the coast line which is about 2000 km long. It
reaches from Ankarafantsika in the North West, up to Tamatave, which
is situated at the east coast . One can also find them on big islands like Nosy Bé, Nosy Mangabe and Nosy Boraha. They live mainly on top of bushes, trees and palm trees around the hot and humid coast but also in gardens and on the edges of fields. In the mountains, the Furcifer Pardalis disperses up to a high of about 1000 meters. Considering Madagascar’s geographical position, the Furcifer Pardalis lives in warm and humid tropical climate, whereas one can find different temperatures and average rainfalls around the differing areas of circulation. The average temperature lies between 23, 5 and 25, 5°C; minimum and maximum temperatures are 16 respectively 30°C. The annual rainfalls are stated with about 1000 mm. Basically you can say that the entire area of circulation is marked by a dry and cool southerly breeze (May/ June until November/ December) as well as by a humid and warm southerly summer (December/ January until April/ May). |
