In general
it is recommended to breed after the female is at least 12month old.
However, overfed females can reach sexual maturity on an earlier age.
For
maiting
you have to put the female into the male’s terrarium which starts
balzen
immediately. It represents itself –nodding- in its most glorious colours to
the female. If she is not ready for mating
she begins to threaten and tries
to bite. If she is ready for mating she stays calm, walks away slowly but gets
overtaken by the male who then climbs on top of
her. The entire act
lasts about 10 minutes.
During the
time of pairing (which can last for about three days) the chameleons can
conjugate a few times.
Females
should not stay in the male’s terrarium unattended as they can injure male
chameleons by biting. After pairing you have to separate the chameleons
again, as pregnant females react extremely aggressive.
Only adult
animals should be paired, three times a year at the most.
Female
chameleon’s readiness of pairing decreases with age.
