In contrary to other species like Chamaeleo
Chalyptratus (here the male has a hind spurs) or Chamaeleo Jacksonii
with its early visible approaching horns, Furcifer Pardalis sexing is
rather difficult, especially if one owns one animal only without any
colouration. Sexual Characteristics like size or formation of mouth
have no effect yet. The colour of the cheek scales do not point
towards a male animal either as one can find that at some female
chameleons as well. It can take up to 9 month until a male animal
changes its colour.
For some colour variations the red skin of the throat and the brownish
colour of the females are used to define the sex. But with that method
one can experience some surprises.
A distinct characteristic for sexing is the male’s
thickened beginning of the tail.
